’28 billion’ paid all remaining annual salary and released, Cincinnati FA wrote dark history

The Cincinnati Reds’ highest free agent contract ever ended in black history.

Cincinnati released infielder Mike Moustakas (35) on the 6th (hereafter Korean time). On the 23rd of last month, with the signing of free agent catcher Kurt Cassali and first baseman Wil Myers, Moustakas was excluded from the 40-man roster and transferred (DFA), but no team wanted him during the waiver period.

When the trade didn’t work out, Cincinnati decided to release Moustakas. According to the annual salary of 18 million dollars this year and the team option in 2024, they parted ways on the condition that they pay all 22 million dollars (about 28 billion won) up to the buyout amount of 4 million dollars. In short, I wasted my money.  토토사이트

Moustakas, who debuted with the Kansas City Royals in 2011, was selected as his first All-Star in 2015 and experienced a World Series victory. He was voted to his second All-Star in 2017 as well, hitting a personal record of 39 home runs. Mustakas, a client of super agent Scott Boras, signed a four-year, $64 million, multi-year contract with Cincinnati in December 2019 through his third free agent.

In 2019, he played for the Milwaukee Brewers with a batting average of 2.54, 133 hits, 35 homers, 87 RBIs, and an OPS of .845 in 143 games, becoming the third All-Star and increasing the value of free agency. Cincinnati acquired Moustakas for the club’s highest paid free agency contract, excluding extensions. Eugenio Suarez (Seattle) was the main third baseman, but Mustakas was brought in and used as the second baseman.

However, it ended up being the worst contract in Cincinnati’s history. Moustakas only appeared in 184 games over three years with Cincinnati. He missed 200 of the team’s 384 games, and his attendance rate (47.9%) did not exceed 50%. He was placed on the injured list seven times, injuring his thigh, heel, and calf.

His performance was also greatly sluggish with a batting average of 2.1 0.6, 124 hits, 21 homers, 74 RBIs, and an OPS of .683. Last year, he played 78 games, batting average . In the aftermath of the injury, the ratio of designated hitters increased, limiting the use of defense. As he reached his mid-30s, it became difficult to expect a rebound, and there was no place for Mustakas in Cincinnati to rebuild.

The team that takes Moustakas, who has become free, only has to pay the lowest annual salary (720,000 dollars) in the major leagues. The amount that Cincinnati has to pay is also reduced as long as Mustakas is in the major leagues, but it does not mean much as it needs to preserve at least $17.28 million.
