Former ‘Ryu helper’ Simeon has 24-game hitting streak…nears Texas franchise record

Marcus Simeon (33-Texas Rangers) extended his hitting streak to 24 games.

Starting at first base and batting second against the St. Louis Cardinals at Globe Life Field in Texas on Saturday, Simeon went 2-for-4 with a double, one walk, one run scored and one RBI in a 4-3 win. Texas pounded out six hits from the one through three spots in the batting order, from No. 2 Corey Seager (5-for-2) to No. 3 Nathaniel Lowe (5-for-2).

Simeon made it 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning, pulling a first-pitch sinker from St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright for an RBI single to left field. It was his 24th consecutive game with a hit. Simeon has added a hit in every game since May 11 against the Seattle Mariners, closing in on the franchise record of 28 consecutive games set by Gabe Kapler in 2000. In the bottom of the sixth inning, he delivered his second hit of the game for his 21st multi-hit game of the season.

Simeon is currently the hottest hitter in the big leagues. In 59 games this season, he is batting .306 (245-for-75) with nine home runs and 48 RBIs. His on-base percentage (0.375) and slugging percentage (0.506) combine for an OPS of 0.881. In his last 15 games, he’s batting .348 and slugging .606. Narrowing it down to seven games, both his batting average (0.367) and on-base percentage (0.633) are higher.안전놀이터

In 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays, he hit 45 home runs and 102 RBIs as the “Ryu Hyun-jin Helper,” winning both the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards as the American League’s second baseman. His batting average dropped to .248 last year, his first season with Texas, but he has regained his accuracy this year. For his career, Simeon is batting .257 with 195 home runs and 613 RBIs.
