Sohn Joon Joon’s learning enthusiasm admired even by a national treasure pitcher, this winter’s teacher is Cy Young Young

Seon Dong-yeol, former national baseball team coach, went on to KT Wiz Spring Camp as an instructor for two consecutive years (2021-2022). I accepted the request of KT manager Lee Kang-cheol, who ate rice in one pot during his days as a player.

KT’s young pitchers, who worked with coach Seon Dong-yeol, the ‘National Treasure Pitcher’, tried to learn even one more thing, shining their eyes every moment. Among them, Joon Sohn (22) approached the most actively. Coach Seon Dong-yeol looked back and said, “Pitcher So-jun So-jun asked me the most about how to fight numbers and how to use breaking balls when dealing with batters.”
Joon Sohn asks team senior pitchers Youngpyo Ko and Baeseong Bae about many things. Bae Seong-seong said, “I’m already doing well enough compared to my annual leave (3 years as of 2022), but I’m a junior with a lot of greed to become a better pitcher. I have big ambitions.”  바카라사이트

On the 30th of last month, Joon Sohn set up a mini camp in Miami, Florida, with Koh Young-pyo and Won Tae-in (Samsung Lions). He was recommended by foreign player Audrey Samer Despaigne, who was his teammate last season. Joon Sohn said, “I heard that it is a facility where many MLB players come. I want to learn their know-how.”

Joon Sohn did not miss the opportunity. He is already connecting with top big leaguers. I learned the change-up grip from Sandy Alcantara (Miami Marlins), who won the MLB National League (NL) Cy Young Award with a 14-9 ERA of 2.28 in the 2022 season. Alcantara’s changeup usage rate in the 2022 season was 27.7%. He threw the most after the four-seam fastball (fastball). His changeup, which has an average velocity approaching 147 km/h, is his main weapon.

Joon Sohn mainly throws a two-seam fastball and a cut fastball (cutter). He is good at inducing ground balls by shaking the hitter’s hitting point. The changeup, on the other hand, is relatively jagged. In his debut season (2020), he did not use it often due to his lack of confidence. In the match against SSG Landers, which took the mound on June 14 last year, the changeup continued to be attacked and received 10 hits. His changeup on-base percentage in the 2022 season was 0.324.

Joon Sohn used the curve more often than the changeup as a deciding ball. Equipping his weapon with one more can give him an advantage in numbers fights against batters. Joon Sohn asked Alcantara not only the changeup grip, but also the way he swings his arm, and what he considers most important. Alcantara also answered happily, and he asked me to ask for more at any time.

Joon Sohn was selected for the World Baseball Classic (WBC) team to be held in March. He, along with Won Tae-in and Lee Eui-ri, is expected to be a generation replacement runner for the Korean baseball team. So Joon Sohn is relatively unknown on the international stage. He could be the secret weapon of the Korean national team in this tournament.
