Korean baseball has fallen one notch to 5th in the world rankings.
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced the baseball world rankings on the 29th (Korean time), reflecting points based on the results of the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC). As a result of the tournament, Korea scored 621 points and tied for ninth place with Canada, the Dominican Republic, and the Netherlands. South Korea dropped from 4th to 5th in the world rankings with a cumulative score of 4049 points.
Korea suffered the humiliation of being eliminated in the first round three times in a row, following 2013 and 2017, with only 2 wins and 2 losses in Group B of the first round group stage held in Tokyo, Japan. In the first game of the tournament, which was promised victory, the calculation was twisted when it came from a 7-8 loss, and the elimination was virtually confirmed with a 4-13 complete defeat against Japan, and the modifier ‘Tokyo catastrophe’ was added. 메이저사이트
Japan, which hurt Korea, earned 1,150 points while winning the tournament. Japan maintained first place in the world rankings with 5323 cumulative points. The U.S., the runner-up in the tournament, earned 953 points and moved up one notch from 3rd to 2nd with a cumulative total of 4402 points.
Mexico, a semifinalist, rose from 5th to 3rd with a cumulative score of 4130 points. Previously second place Taiwan (4061 points) was eliminated from the group stage in the first round, like Korea, and fell to fourth place behind the United States and Mexico.
Australia, who wrote the legend of advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time in the history of the tournament, won 811 points and recorded a cumulative point of 2600, moving up one notch from 10th to 9th.
The baseball world ranking is determined by adding the results of international competitions (from the U-12 Baseball World Cup to the Premier 12) hosted by the WBSC over the past four years and the WBC hosted by the Major League Secretariat. By the end of 2023, countries in the top 12 of the world rankings will qualify for the Premier 12 competition.
